A person may speak an abundance of words drawn from an abundance of thoughts, but it is the character or quality of that abundant treasure within that determines the value of what flows from our lips. How many have nothing to say and insist on saying it? But have we also known those who may have much to say yet provide just what is beneficial for the moment? The thing for us to remain mindful of when it comes to our words is both the quality from which they arise and the self-control in how they are extended.
It has been said, “Never trust your tongue when your heart is bitter. Let it heal before you speak.” (Rick Warren)
Jesus made it clear the issue of the tongue is a heart issue as He exhorted. . .
“(45) The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45-46 ESV)
Remaining mindful of the quality of the heart from which our words are drawn is important due to the impact of either drawing the listening ears of others toward us or driving them away. And as we consider how there is both death and life in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), we should remain mindful of how the quick draw of words may shoot others down while the controlled draw can bring benefit and life. May we continue storing a good treasure within to provide worth to our words!
Have a great day SPEAKING HEALING WORDS FROM A HEALTHY HEART!
