REAL VALUE!

March 1, 2023 by Carl Hanson

[03/01/2023 “teEn-MAIL”]

[This focus was originally sent 08/30/2010 (Edited some.)]

People treasure different things and not everything treasured retains much, if any, of its original value. Jesus noted treasure which is impacted by moth, rust, or theft in contrast to treasure not subject to any of that. (Matthew 6:19-20) Therefore, Jesus cautioned with regard to where the affections of our heart rest as He stated. . .

“(21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 ESV)

What is valued most by us? What is our heart truly focused on retaining? What we love is what we are most drawn toward and will tend to hold onto the tightest. It is therefore important to maintain a proper perspective regarding where our heart is focused.

Recently reading through Psalm 119 again, I was struck by all of this where the psalmist wrote. . .

“(36) Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! (37) Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.” (Psalm 119:36-37 ESV)

It was not a relationship with “stuff”, but rather one with God and His Ways that the psalmist knew had the greatest value for his life. Rather than “selfish gain” or “worthless things”, God’s Ways lead to what is truly life! Is that what our heart is inclined toward? Not all who think they are “living the life” have actually found it. In fact, they may be missing it completely; real life and that of eternal value! There is a lot in this life which can easily distract us. All that glitters is not necessarily gold. Therefore, an important move on our part is to turn the eyes more toward God!

That of the greatest value is that which retains its value. We may find some enjoyment in the “stuff” of this life, but compared to eternity, all that is only for a moment. May our heart be inclined toward the life God desires us to enjoy as we seek life now and for eternity in His Ways.

Have a great day FINDING THE RICH LIFE IN THE LORD!

                        Carl

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
