As we think about the cost of our ransom or redemption from sin, at what cost could it have been secured? When we consider how the Lord could provide for the temple tax for both Peter and Himself (Matthew 17:24-27), if it was to be by means of money, Jesus could have had Peter and the rest of the disciples just catch more fish with shekels in their mouths. If it was to be by much wealth as can be made in business, Jesus could have continued dividing a few loaves and fish (Matthew 14:17-21; 15:35-38) to be sold until a large sum had been collected. Consider also how God spoke all of creation into existence (Genesis 1) and how it all actually belongs to Him (Psalm 24:1; 50:12; 89:11), so it is fully within His ability to bring to existence however much gold and silver would be needed if that was to be the price for our redemption. However, in reality, none of that would have cost Him anything! Therefore, let us never lose sight of the high and very personal cost of our redemption as Peter stated. . .
“(18) knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” (1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV)
Our Lord did not give of any possessions on our behalf, but willingly gave His very self! That of the highest value — the Life of our Lord — was given in order that through Him we could have life abundantly and eternally. There is no higher nor more personal cost than that! May we never cease to be thankful for the purchase made as we live revealing we truly do belong to Him!
Have a great day REJOICING TO BE IN THE POSSESSION OF THE ONE WHO BOUGHT US!
