Things happen in life which cause us to wonder and worry. We become alarmed as we consider the harm that can and does occur. Yes, we live in a world of real danger. There is the need to live alert to what is going on around us. However, there is also the need to live aware of what is above us; the watchful and assuring power and promise of God. Remember, there is only so much humanity can do to us (Psalm 118:6; Matthew 10:28), but it is God Who has the power over our soul and its destiny.
As a fisherman, I am sure Peter had a healthy respect for stormy waters. Nevertheless, he was willing to step out of the boat to walk toward the Lord. If only he had kept his focus there, because when he allowed what was going on around him to capture his focus, he began to sink. Still, it was to the Lord he called for saving. (Matthew 14:28-33) And the power of the Lord stilled the storm and stilled the fear.
In the psalms we read. . .
“(1) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (2) Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, (3) though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” (Psalm 46:1-3 ESV)
There is a picture of unshakeable faith! Though the things of this realm can be shaken, let us remember in Christ we have become part of an unshakeable kingdom. (Hebrews 12:28) When we feel the scenes of life around us begin to cloud our vision and bring us down, let us refocus above the storms. May we keep our focus on God to develop and retain an unshakeable faith in Him!
Have a great day LEARNING TO FOCUS ABOVE LIFE’S STORMS!
