How committed are we to following God’s commands? How devoted are we to surrendering to His direction? How locked in are we of heart and mind to keep on seeking His Will and following in it?
The writer of Psalm 119 stated. . .
“(106) I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.” (Psalm 119:106 ESV)
Though we ought to be known for our yes being “yes” and our no being “no” (i.e. Matthew 5:37; James 5:12) — being people true to our word — the psalmist here marked the depth of how serious he was about following God’s righteous rules. He had promised! His resolve was marked by an oath. This was his personal resolute focus in surrendering to the Sovereign Will of God. During the days of Nehemiah, he led the people in committing with an oath to walk in accordance with God’s Law. (Nehemiah 10:28-29) Making such a commitment with others can strengthen our resolve in being held accountable with one another.
When we consider the covenant of marriage in the exchanging of vows in pledging love to another, how much more so do we need to consider the seriousness of this in the covenant relationship with God. Such is actually a testimony of the genuineness of our love as John stated. . .
“(3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3 ESV)
And. . .
“(6) And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.” (2 John 6 ESV)
God’s commands are good and good for us. They have our best in mind. They are not burdensome. The real burden is to go our own way and be left with the weight of sin remaining on us. If we have true devotion toward God we will be devoted to Him and His Will. May we experience the blessings of true freedom, lasting joy, and pervasive peace by fully surrendering to His Sovereign Will!
Have a great day SOLEMNLY SURRENDERED TO GOD’S WILL!
