To “rest assured” is to be sure or confident that something is true or is going to happen. It is to rest in the reality rather than to worry over the matter. When someone says, “rest assured”, they are expressing it is something one can count on. Therefore, lay anxiety aside and rest confidently in what is to come.
How much more so should this be our focus toward God. Are we “resting assured” in the reality of His loving watchfulness over our life? Are we “resting assured” of His Sovereign power to bring us though life and ultimately into His glorious eternal presence?
Trustingly resting in the care of the Divine Shepherd, David ended Psalm 23 confidently expressing. . .
“(6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6 ESV)
The word “surely” is from the Hebrew “ak” meaning “indeed” or “surely” in an emphatic sense. [Source: Strong’s Lexicon] David rested in the confidence of God’s goodness and mercy continuing with him throughout the days of his life as he pressed on in a forever relationship with Him.
Writing to Christians at Thessalonica, Paul encouraged. . .
“(23) Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (24) He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 ESV)
This too was stated with a looking ahead; toward the coming of the Lord. Regardless of the trials of the time, they could “rest assured” God would fulfill that for which they were living their life prepared. Are we living prepared as we rest in the reality of God’s promises?
Remember our Lord’s invitation where we read. . .
“(28) Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
Let us continue being drawn by that blessed invitation as we rest in the assurance of what is yet to come! May we retain a steadfast faith in the faithfulness of God!
Have a great day RESTING ASSURED OF WHAT GOD WILL DO!
