A man who had many challenges and trials going on in his life was asked by a friend how in the midst of it all he was still able to put his mind at rest and sleep at night. Citing Psalm 121:3-4 which reads, “(3) He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. (4) Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” (Ps. 121:3-4 ESV), the man responded, “Since God neither slumbers nor sleeps, there’s no sense both of us keeping awake!”
Are we learning to believe and trust like that? Even when facing unrest are we able to find rest?
In his letter to Christians at Philippi, Paul exhorted. . .
“(6) do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
Key to dealing with the “anything” giving rise to anxiousness is the “everything” being taken to God in prayer. Deepening our trust in God we can begin to experience His peace that surpasses all understanding. As others around us might wonder at how we can be at peace even in the face of difficulties, we may have the opportunity to share with them the Jesus Who has made all the difference in our life, drawing them to Him to also begin to experience a peace not found by worldly means. May our trust continue to grow so we can experience more and more this peace of heart and mind found in Jesus!
Have a great day RESTING THE LIFE IN JESUS!
