There are people who look for a better life by seeking to rise higher in economic status or social circles. There are also people who seek to live a good life by rising to the occasion of helping others as they are able. Most live their life compelled by what rises most in their heart and mind. Therefore, it is important to consider what it is that has become most significant to us.
Consider where Jesus drew the attention of His disciples where we read. . .
“(24) Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (25) For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25 ESV)
This seems to imply due consideration ought to be given to what we are most holding to! Are we bound to lose the life we are trying to save or have we surrendered to the life that will ultimately be given through a willingness to deny self and follow in discipleship? Though the life lived presently can be worthwhile in serving the godly function of directing the focus of others toward the Lord, how often do we become so focused on the temporary things of this life that we lose sight of that which is eternal?
The writer of Hebrews noted those who had a faith focus that looked beyond this realm to something better. In his list of men and women of steadfast faith, he noted. . .
“(35) Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.” (Hebrews 11:35 ESV)
Clearly, for these, eternity was in their hearts and minds. They lived and pressed on with an understanding they would rise again to something better. Even in losing their life, they found it for eternity! Let us understand it is the Heavenly mind that will aid us in being of the most earthly good to the glory of God and benefit of others. May we therefore live and serve each day with eternity in our heart and mind!
Have a great day RISING TO LIVE WITH HEAVEN IN THE HEART!
