When I look up to the tops of hills, what generally goes through my mind is imagining the view that can be seen from there. When hiking, it takes work to reach the heights, but when the height is reached, the loaded pack comes off and the view is enjoyed. It is then acknowledged as having been worth what was endured in order to get there.
Someone has noted, “Mountaintops inspire us, but valleys mature us.” [Actually a shortened variation of a quote on leadership by Winston Churchill.]
Despite the challenges David faced — in focusing on God, His Shepherd — he would write. . .
“(4) Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 ESV)
The valley was not where David was left, but where he was led through. For the sheep it was the pathway to fresh pastures above. For David, he was continuing to be led to higher ground with His God.
While keeping our focus of trust in God, it is through life’s trials that our tested faith is shown to be genuine, giving rise to praise and glory and honor to the Lord Who abides with us. (1 Peter 1:7) It is through the trials of life that we are provided with a means of maturing in ways we would not otherwise. (James 1:2-4) And though life’s valleys come with their challenges, what will be seen above will be worth the perseverance. (i.e. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18) Therefore, may we trustingly follow the guidance of God, knowing someday we will have the most spectacular and heavenly view we could ever imagine!
Have a great day PRESSING ONWARD AND UPWARD WITH GOD!
