Someone has said, “If you want to know someone’s mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions.” [origin unknown]
Jesus noted those who, regardless of their claims, would be known by their fruit. (Matthew 7:15-20) Like a tree, the fruit of a life reveals its health and what it truly is. Though we do not have insight into the heart of others, actions and words stem from what is there. (Matthew 12:33-37) As good or bad fruit is determined by the health of the tree, so it is with a life. To discern something from viewing the actions of others is not to judge the heart, but to be a fruit inspector as the actions reveal the true essence within. We must therefore live mindful of what the fruit of our life reveals. Is the fruit consistent with our verbal claims as Christians?
John exhorted. . .
“(17)But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? (18) Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18 ESV)
Beyond the lips is to be a focus on the life which reveals the true essence of the heart. May the fruit of our life be consistent with the spirit that is ours in Christ. (Galatians 5:22-23) Beyond what we know, let what we bestow be the fruit of a godly heart!
Have a great day LIVING RIPE FOR GODLY INSPECTION!
Carl
