Recently reading through Luke’s Gospel, I was reminded of the words spoken to the women who came to the tomb on the first day of the week. Seeing the stone rolled away and finding the tomb empty, we read. . .
“(4)While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. (5) And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? (6) He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, (7) that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”” (Luke 24:4-7 ESV)
Consider the words, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” The tomb was a place of death and Jesus was no longer dead. This was not the place to find Jesus.
As we consider the tomb would not be the place to find life, where is it that we are seeking life? Is it in the world, or is it truly in Christ? Are we trying to make a life from the things of the world; what the world values or offers as its principles and standards for living? Or are we seeking life in what relates to Jesus and the life He came to provide?
We must understand there is the possibility through self-indulgence that one can be dead even while living. (i.e. 1 Timothy 5:6) And some are clutching what they think is life while missing that which is truly life. (note 1 Timothy 6:17-19) Therefore, we need to look to the Author of life to find the life He came to provide. (i.e. John 5:24; 10:10) Is there a sense in which we have been looking for life in the wrong places; seeking it from among the dead? Or are we truly looking to the living Lord to find life in its truest sense both physically and spiritually?
Let our resolve be that of Peter’s where we read. . .
“(68) Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, (69) and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”” (John 6:68-69 ESV)
Life! Jesus is it! (John 14:6) In Him it is found. (John 1:4) Through our knowledge of Him we will find all that pertains to life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) Jesus has the words of eternal life leading to the assurance of it! May our seeking continue to be in all that relates to the truth in Him pertaining to life presently and eternally!
Have a great day SEEKING LIFE IN “THE LIFE”!
