In one of Jesus’ parables relating to the judgment to come, we read. . .
“(37) Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? (38) And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? (39) And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ (40) And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” (Matthew 25:37-40 ESV)
What Jesus stated in this parable (Matthew 25:31-46) makes it clear the significance of such service. Though we do not all have the same opportunities, we do have opportunities to serve others. As we do so, Jesus’ emphasis was that it is to be done as serving Him. Paul emphasized the same thing in connection with servants and their masters. (Colossians 3:22-24) What we each need to remain mindful of is what are we doing where we are in the opportunities God provides?
As you glorify the Lord in the giving of yourself, are you experiencing the blessing of joy in being used in such service? In the door that has opened for me to share God’s Word in both our county jail and in one of our State Corrections Centers, I have had incarcerated individuals thank me for doing what Jesus said to do; visit them in prison. This week I had the blessed opportunity to have the arm of an incarcerated individual around me as we prayed side-by-side prior to him being baptized into Christ. It is wonderful seeing hearts open to the message and power of God’s Word. As there is planting and watering in which we together engage, it is God Who brings the growth. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7) Trusting in the results He brings, may we continue as His fellow workers (1 Corinthians 3:9) open to serving in whatever opportunities into which He brings us!
Have a great day SERVING THE LORD!
