In spite of the variation of things we might be experiencing in life, and even what others might be doing or doing to us, where are we seeking for our focus to rest? Though all things may not be good, is everything bad? Are we looking to God and His ability to work all things together for good according to His Divine purposes (Romans 8:28) as we continue striving to walk in accordance with His Will?
Even as David lived in a world of both trials and triumph, because of his heart for God, it was with God that his focus of reliance rested. In the sixteenth psalm he began. . .
“(1) Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. (2) I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”” (Psalm 16:1-2 ESV)
Though others ran after other gods and would reap the result of such (i.e. Psalm 16:4), David’s focus remained fixed on God as his chosen portion and cup in life (Psalm 16:5) knowing that was where good would be experienced. There was nothing to gain apart from God!
Are we also continuing to live mindful that the sphere of good is the sphere of God? That is where our focus needs to remain resting.
As Paul encouraged those are Rome. . .
“(31) What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (32) He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32 ESV)
Rather than elsewhere, is our focus fixed on God as we trust Him for all the good He is able to bring into our life? As we count on Him to see us through life, let us count (as an unknown writer has encouraged) our. . .
Blessings instead of crosses,
Gains instead of losses,
Joys instead of woes,
Friends instead of foes,
Smiles instead of tears,
Courage instead of fears,
Full years instead of lean,
Kind deeds instead of mean,
Health instead of wealth,
And yes, above all,
Count on God instead of ourselves.
Have a great day LIVING GRATEFULLY FOR THE GOOD GOD BRINGS!
