We might say that living a spirit-led life is a good thing. However, it appears there is a sense in which everyone is spirit-led. What? Yes! People feel moved to do a lot of things, but what is the real motivator behind or within them? What is the real influencer in the life?
In his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul reminded his readers. . .
“(1) And you were dead in the trespasses and sins (2) in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience — (3) among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.” (Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV)
That is the spirit they had once followed as others in the world. However, they had come to know Christ and the salvation in Him by the grace of God. (Ephesians 2:4-9) It was then through Christ it was made possible through one Spirit to gain access to the Father. (Ephesians 2:18) Therefore, in the consideration of being spirit-led it is of great importance to understand what spirit that is!
As Jesus encouraged His disciples the night prior to His arrest in the garden, He stated. . .
“(16) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, (17) even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17 ESV)
Even Jesus here noted the contrast between His disciples and the world in the acknowledgment of the “Spirit of truth”. In understanding it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18) and that Jesus is “the truth” (John 14:6), then naturally we would understand the Spirit of God to be the same; never any contradiction between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! As we feel moved, continually looking into the Word of God we can confirm whether or not it is His Spirit truly guiding us. May we remain under the Divine influence of the “Spirit of truth”!
Have a great day LIVING TRUE TO THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH!
