It has been noted that “Sometimes we are tested not to show our weakness, but to discover our strength.” [Facebook post] There are times when such revealing does come to light as we acknowledge we each have our own weaknesses and strengths. However, in face of our weaknesses, may our focus also be drawn to the acknowledgement of where our true strength comes enabling us to live a God glorifying life despite them.
In view of something Paul had prayed to be removed from his life, he humbly stated his acceptance and contentment where we read. . .
“(9) But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (10) For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV)
Regardless of what may have been viewed as a weakness in the life of Paul, his focus turned to the power of Christ to work in spite of it! His dependence in life and ministry was not merely in self, but on the Lord! It was in humble reliance on Divine power that Paul carried out the work of his ministry. (Colossians 1:29) Therefore, rather than boasting in his strengths, he boasted of that which made more evident the power of the Lord energizing him to press on in fruitful ministry.
There are times when we might think we are stronger than we are and be drawn to rely merely on our own self. However, when we are made aware of our weaknesses, let us not decide there is no use trying, but be reminded of God’s power at work for and through us (i.e. Ephesians 3:20) which is able to accomplish what He desires. In the reality of our own imperfections and weaknesses, He has both the ability and desire to use us in His work in a manner to constantly remind us that even in view of our fragileness as jars of clay, the power is not from us but from God. (2 Corinthians 4:7) May we trust in God’s power to remain at work as we step forward in faith allowing Him to carry on His Divine Will in and through us!
Have a great day TRUSTING HIS STRENGTH THROUGH WEAKNESS!
Carl
