There are many things we do fully understanding we will have to do the job again. Washed dishes will again be eaten from and require washing. Weeded gardens will once again need weeding. Dusted shelves will again require dusting. Painted walls will again need painting. Washed hands will again need washing. And the list goes on. But oh the joy and satisfaction felt over tasks which can be completed once for all time with no need of being done again. Perhaps a couple things which have gotten close to this are metal roofs and aluminum siding for a house.
In the Hebrew writer’s comparison between the Old and the New, we read. . .
“(11) And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. (12) But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, (13) waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. (14) For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:11-14 ESV)
What the continuing endless sacrifices under the old law could not accomplish regardless of how many were offered, Jesus accomplished by one sacrifice for all time. Jesus, “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29 ESV) is the sufficient means of providing for our purification from sin. (Hebrews 9:14) What the blood of bulls and goats could not do (Hebrews 10:4), Jesus fulfilled in accordance with the Divine plan! (Hebrews 10:5-7) God’s grace, extended through Christ, is completely sufficient. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
John encouraged as he exhorted. . .
“ (7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 ESV)
In Jesus is found the power to deal with all sin! May we keep walking in fellowship with our Lord and so receive the continuing sufficiency of His single sacrifice for all time!
Have a great day SUBMITTING TO GOD FOR THE ADEQUATE MEANS OF SALVATION!
