Reading through the psalms I was struck as I read. . .
“(5) Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.” (Psalm 93:5 ESV)
Reading through the description of the temple Solomon built to the glory of the Lord, it had to have been something to behold. All the gold and silver and cedar and engraving work that went into it would have made it quite ornate. However, aside from the craftmanship and the costly materials used in construction, it was holiness above all to be noted as befitting it. That would have related to all which took place within and the drawing of the attention to the Lord Whose Name was there.
Though that house could in no way contain God (i.e. 1 Kings 8:27), God had an even greater desire; to dwell in us by His Spirit. In light of this we ought to remember as Christians our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and we are also noted as being God’s house! (Hebrews 3:6) That ought to duly draw our attention to holiness befitting our own life.
Encouraging His disciples, Jesus stated. . .
“(23) Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23 ESV)
Without maintaining a love for the Will of the Lord and seeking to glorify Him in the manner in which our life is lived, how at home could He be in our life? May we continually bear in mind since holiness is that which befits the dwelling place of God, we are to strive to be holy in all our conduct. (1 Peter 1:15) May we seek God’s help in remaining so at home with His Will that our life may remain a suitable habitation for Him!
Have a great day MINDFUL OF WHAT AND WHOSE WE ARE!
Carl
