The “sum” of something mathematically is the total. When it comes to the truth, do we merely want “some” of it, or “all” of it? Even when the truth hurts (i.e. Proverbs 27:6), are we willing to accept it so our life may be redirected toward proper living?
There is much in this world into which people choose to or are drawn to engage that instead of contributing to life, takes away from it. There are choices which lead to regret rather than rejoicing. There is advice offered as help which ends up hindering. There is life foundation declared to be solid which ends up having no real substance. There are ideologies which promise much while delivering little. There is so much that in the end may be seen to just not add up to truly moving life toward better things.
In Psalm 119 the statement is made. . .
“(159) Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love. (160) The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.” (Psalm 119:159-160 ESV)
To do the math statistically, all the things which God declared would be which came to be cannot realistically be relegated to coincidence. Again and again God’s Word has been revealed to be true whether it be His promises or His warnings. And it remains the teaching of His Word that provides the most stable foundation for which our life can rest to weather the storms of life. (i.e. Matthew 7:24-25) Though there are things of life in this realm which may be difficult to understand all the why’s and where fore’s, when life does not seem to be adding up let us take a closer look at what we are resting and building our life upon!
In one of David’s psalms we read. . .
“(17) How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! (18) If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.” (Psalm 139:17-18 ESV)
Though God has not revealed all (i.e. Deuteronomy 29:29), He has revealed much. Our Creator has given us life and has preserved His Word to guide it. Are we seeking the truth? Are we developing a love for the truth, even when it reveals we are wrong and in need of repenting to get our life back in line with God’s Will?
Remember Jesus declared. . .
“(6) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 ESV)
Let us continue looking to Jesus as the Truth that leads to the Father! To sum it up, Jesus — Who came “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14) is the offeror of abundant life now (John 10:10) and eternal life to come (John 10:28) as the total means of our salvation. (Acts 4:12) Following Him, in the end, it will all add up!
Have a great day TOTALLY TRUSTING THE TRUTH OF GOD!
