Remember studying about the Boston Tea Party (December 16, 1773)? Due to England’s taxing of tea brought to the colonies, the tea was thrown overboard in the harbor as a protest. Though there are taxes people willingly vote for to support various programs, being taxed is not necessarily a love in life.
Though there are taxes which cannot be avoided, there is an area we need not be taxed if we are willing to focus on making the right choices in life. Today there are things that tax our lives in various ways of which it is time for us to throw a “personal tea party.” Sin taxes our lives. Sin keeps us from progressing spiritually as we ought. Sin taxes us with guilt, shame, anxiety, grief, separation from God, etc. The devil is the one collecting the taxes on sin. And, yes, souls are being taxed to death! We need to get rid of sin. We need to throw it overboard.
Paul wrote. . .
“[5] Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [6] On account of these the wrath of God is coming. [7] In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. [8] But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” (Colossians 3:5-8 ESV) [note also Ephesians 4:31-32; James 1:21; I Peter 2:1-3]
Let us refuse to let the devil collect the taxes. Throw that taxed stuff overboard. Under the authority of Jesus, we can be set free.
Have a great day AS A FREED CITIZEN IN CHRIST’S KINGDOM!
Carl
