“Friendship is to be treasured. Today, Dear Lord, I give thanks for all the friends in my life.” [portion of a calendar quote]
Do we sometimes sit back and think about our friends and the treasure they are? Perhaps our thoughts are even drawn to a particular friend; one who is the friend we know we can always count on.
Solomon wrote. . .
“ (24) A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24 ESV)
To have such a friend or friends is a real blessing. Such relationships ought to be treasured and not taken for granted. And to have such among Christian brothers and sisters should be treasured even more. However, even above that ought to be the treasuring of such when it is with God. Remember what Abraham was called and why.
Referring to the faith of Abraham, James stated. . .
“(22) You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; (23) and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness” — and he was called a friend of God.” (James 2:22-23 ESV)
Here was faith in the faithfulness of a dear relationship. Is it so with us?
Later on in his letter James also noted. . .
“(4) You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (James 4:4 ESV)
There is therefore cause for consideration of where our closest friendship rests. Does our life reveal the closest tie to God or the world? As Abraham believed God and acted accordingly, he was noted as a friend of God. May we also believe God above all and so reveal through the actions of our life that our dearest bond is with Him!
Have a great day TREASURING THE RELATIONSHIP GOD DESIRES!
