We probably all know some perfectionists; those who get highly stressed over getting everything they are doing just as right as they can. We may also know some who are just content with getting things done and out of the way even if not to the best of their ability. While some seek to master things, others are content with mediocrity. Though it has been noted that anything worth doing is worth doing well, there is a limit to how perfect things might be completed by us. Even as hard as I try to edit these focuses well — finding myself writing, rewriting, re-reading and editing some more — there are times I will later still find a typo I missed or wish I had phrased something differently.
In the 119th Psalm we read. . .
“(96) I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.” (Psalm 119:96 ESV)
We all live with limitations. No matter how skilled or talented we may be, errors are committed, and mistakes are made. As hard as we try, not everything works out in the manner we might like. Therefore, we should continue being rightly thankful for God’s grace and mercy. However, the direction God provides through His word has wide application to all aspects of our life! It is what leads us into living not the perfect life, but the best life possible toward the perfection (completeness or maturity) of being more and more like God. (i.e. Matthew 5:48) This cannot take place by the flesh (Galatians 3:3), but comes through the ongoing transformation of our life surrendered to God’s Spirit as we look to God’s perfect Will to guide us.
James exhorted. . .
“(25) But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” (James 1:25 ESV)
Looking to God’s Word and looking to Christ and His provision on the cross is what perfects our life as we have been sanctified (made holy) in Him! (i.e. Hebrews 10:14) Acknowledging how multifaceted God’s Word is in its working in our life to complete and equip us for living and serving (2 Timothy 3:16-17), may we continue surrendering to it!
Have a great day SURRENDERED TO THE PERFECTING PROCESS OF GOD!
