THE MORE THE MEMORIER

February 8, 2023 by Carl Hanson

[02/08/2023 “teEn-MAIL”]

I do a lot of reading and can do a variety of mathematical calculations. Though there will continue to be more reading to do, and I admit there is mathematical computation beyond my ability (i.e. calculus and trigonometry), all I can do began with learning the basics of 1+1=2 and my ABC’s and how those letters work together to form words which I then found formed phrases, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, and books. Though it is expressed “the more the merrier” in connection with some things in life, when it comes to our learning, the more we come to understand the more we seem to understand what we further read. Therefore, “the more the memorier”; the more will be taken to mind and remembered for living. This is no more true than in our reading of the Scriptures.

Following Jesus’ telling of the parable of “the sower” (Mark 4:3-8), responding to His disciples’ question regarding the purpose of speaking in parables (Mark 4:10-12) and his explanation of that parable (Mark 4:13-20), Mark further recorded Jesus going on to state. . .

“(21)And he said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand? (22) For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. (23) If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” (24) And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. (25) For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” (Mark 4:21-25 ESV)

Are we acknowledging the light of the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 4:6) and allowing it to illuminate our path and enlighten our mind? Are we listening; paying attention as we read Jesus’ words and the rest of the Scriptures? The more we read the more we will gradually understand and see how it all fits together! If that pursuit is not continued, the implication from Jesus is that we will lose what we have already come to understand.

Though some things may be easier to understand than others (i.e. 2 Peter 3:16), the more we “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), the better we are protected from being drawn away into error (2 Peter 3:17) and away from the stability the truth of God provides. Let us recognize how the Bible is the best interpreter of itself as we keep context in mind. What we clearly understanding in one place aids in rightly comprehending other parts as well. Therefore, may we keep reading the Scriptures daily to be sure we are accepting and building our life on the basics and basis of God’s foundation!

Have a great day INCREASING IN COMPREHENSION OF GOD’S WILL FOR LIFE!

                        Carl

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
