How often do people say things they really don’t mean? How many times are empty words spoken with no intention of backing them up or following through? Though all words have meaning, there are times when they can lack it; when there is actually nothing of substance behind them. This is no more true than when talking about love. As has been said, “Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.” (Paulo Coelho) And what gives love meaning more than it being given or acted upon?
This is the meaningful love John urged toward where we read. . .
“(16) By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. (17) But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? (18) Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:16-18 ESV)
We know the Divine meaning of love because of our Lord’s willingness to lovingly lay down His life for us. There is no question as to the greatness of that love! Others will know the meaning of our love when it is acted upon and demonstrated in our life. Though others hearing us tell them we love them is encouraging and good, it is in putting love into action toward them that love’s meaning is revealed. That is true love! May it be the meaningful love that marks our life!
Have a great day BEING A LIVING DEFINITION OF TRUE LOVE!
