“Trust” is defined as, “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something” and also “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something”. For “trust” to be associated with “assured reliance” or “firm belief” it would seem to be a fixed focus where doubt is removed and confidence is instilled. It would not be to trust a little or to trust only so far, because that would not seem to be trust at all.
Though there are people with whom we might trust ourselves to them in a limited sphere relative to their known abilities, it ought not to be so in our view toward God with Whom all things are possible. (i.e. Matthew 19:26; Luke 1:37) As Solomon urged. . .
“(5) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV)
The context makes it clear the urging is toward whole-hearted trust in the Lord! Unless it is with the whole heart, is it really trust? The Hebrew word here is “betah” which has been noted as meaning to trust, to be confident, and to be sure, and also holding the idea of being safe. To know God is to know it is safe to put our entire confidence in Him; to wholly entrust our life to Him, to His care, and to His direction! To have faith in God Who can be nothing but faithful (i.e. 2 Timothy 2:13) should move us toward this whole-hearted trust. Beginning with our heart, may we truly trust the Lord with our entire being!
Have a great day CONFIDENT OF OUR LIFE’S SAFETY WITH GOD!
Carl
