People of notoriety are often accompanied by bodyguards. Those hired protectors follow along to guard against crowds from pressing too close while also keeping a watchful eye out for anything or anyone that might present a danger. Bodyguards are employed to provide a sense of security to the one they accompany. This allows the guarded individual to remain calm and confident as they go about their activities.
David knew where to look for security. He wrote. . .
“(20) Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. (21) May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.” (Psalm 25:20-21 ESV)
Verse twenty-one in the New Living Translation reads “(21) May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you.”
Ultimately David looked to God and His power to guard and deliver him. However, he also noted two guardians which were to accompany him as he went about the activities of life. It was important for integrity and uprightness to always remain alongside him to also aid in preserving or protecting him.
We also are to live in sincerity and faithfulness before God. As integrity and uprightness accompany us through the day-to-day activities of life, not only are the acts of our body guarded, but also the thoughts of our mind and the affections of our heart. And even though the world’s standards press in around us, the watchful eye of integrity and uprightness help us to press on in accordance with God’s Will.
These two bodyguards (or perhaps better called “lifeguards”) offer far greater security than the wealth and honor of the world. A sincere seeking after the things of God is what helps preserve our greatest hope. May we remain so guarded!
Have a great day IN GODLY PROTECTIVE COMPANY!
