That which is displayed on a thrift store shelf or on a flea market or yard sale table, may be there because someone either no longer wanted or needed it. Perhaps the newness wore off or it was no longer valued due to being marred or worn by use. However, being displayed means there is hope someone will see enough value to purchase it. When something is marked “Make me an offer”, whatever is offered reflects either value acknowledged or merely the desire for a good deal.
Thus is sometimes the focus on stuff. However, how many times has human life been devalued when all that is acknowledged is brokenness or the marks of having been worn out by life’s experiences? Let us guard against either viewing our own selves as being worthless or going to the other extreme of thinking we are of more value than anyone else?
In his letter to Christians at Rome, Paul noted the demonstration of God’s love toward us in stating. . .
“(6) For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (7) For one will scarcely die for a righteous person — though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die — (8) but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8 ESV)
Does that not indicate God seeing our life worth the investment despite our sins?
Peter also reminded his readers. . .
“ (18) knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” (1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV)
The perfect was provided for the imperfect! What a high cost! What a precious price paid!
Someone has said, “Our worth is measured by what God paid to rescue us.” (original source unknown) What was offered up on our behalf was the Son Who willingly paid that price to redeem us and save us from our sins. Let us continually bear in mind that value regarding our own life and the life of others! May we also strive to live in a manner reflecting due appreciation for that price paid!
Have a great day VALUING THE ONE WHO CLEARLY VALUES US!
