It has been said, “Honesty is a very expensive gift. Don’t expect it from cheap people.” (Warren Buffett)
The problem in this world is that in not acknowledging or understanding what is of most value, good values have been lost. There are so many who seem to be lacking in integrity that honesty in some spheres isn’t even the expectation. That is sad! And when such is the case among those claiming to be Christians, it is sadder yet. Many years ago on a radio talk show, one caller made the statement that all ministers are liars. Wow! Though I would disagree with the generalization to paint all engaged in ministry with the same brush, the statement was most likely made due to having experienced such.
For some, talk is cheap. Such people have nothing to back up what they say or say things with no intention of following through. To follow through can mean the cost of inconvenience, personal resources, time, etc. However, what it won’t cost is the loss of a reputation of integrity.
In Proverbs we read. . .
“ (3) The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.” (Proverbs 11:3 ESV)
And. . .
“(6) Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” (Proverbs 28:6 ESV)
Would we agree that being dishonest with others cheapens the relationship; does not value it as we ought? If we want to be trusted — if we want to be believed in all we say — let us remain honest. Honesty is noted as being truthful to ourselves and others while integrity is living that truth. May honesty be valued as the precious gift it will prove to be in all our relationships!
Have a great day DULY VALUING RELATIONSHIPS AND REPUTATION!
