When God created Adam and Eve, He placed them in a garden paradise. What a wonderful setting. What a lovely place to live. However, following the temptation and eating of the forbidden fruit we read. . .
“(8) And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. (9) But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”” (Genesis 3:8-9 ESV)
That walking in the garden may have been an everyday thing for God with Adam and Eve. What a beautiful picture of daily fellowship in the cool of the day. However, sin had disrupted that fellowship and on this occasion Adam and Eve hid themselves rather than eagerly joining in the walk of that fellowship. Did God not know where they were? Were they successfully hiding from Him? The scriptures imply the full awareness of God of what goes on in us and around us. (i.e. Psalm 33:13-15; Psalm 139:1-12; Hebrews 4:13) The need was for Adam and Eve themselves to acknowledge where they were. They were at that moment not walking with God. They had departed from walking in His Will. They were in need of repentance; turning back to Him.
This is the great tragedy of life in this world! Many do not realize where they are in their refusal to walk with God. As we look closely to see where we ourselves are in relation to Him, we need to help those around us also come to understand that same need of turning from ignorance to repenting (i.e. Acts 17:30-31) and so turning to walking with God!
“Where are you?” That’s an important question with which to come to grips. I must take it personally and ask, “Where am I?” Are we continuing to walk in fellowship with God through each day He provides? If not, let us repent! Let us turn around to walk on in fellowship with Him and His Sovereign Will for our life. Our walk of eternity begins now for the journey that leads onward and upward in a fellowship that has no end. In duly acknowledging where we ought to be keeps us in the fellowship that leads us to where God ultimately wants us. May we continue walking in that blessed fellowship He is eager to have with us!
Have a great day WALKING WHERE GOD IS!
