One of our parcel services advertises “We Deliver!” But I have found their deliveries are not always in a timely manner, regardless of what they guarantee.
Our God is truly the One Who delivers! He delivers again and again with the intent to deliver even further. God is definitely and gloriously in the delivery business. He delivers His promises and brings about their fulfillment.
Remember the promise God made to Abraham.
“(10) The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. . . . . “(18) seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? (19) For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”” (Genesis 18:10, 18-19 ESV)
God promised and God delivered! Three chapters further we read. . .
“(1) The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. (2) And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. (3) Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. (4) And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. (5) Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.” (Genesis 21:1-5 ESV)
As God delivered on His promise and Sarah delivered Isaac, this was just the beginning of God’s intended deliveries! God delivered His people from bondage in Egypt and took them to the land He had promised to Abraham. God delivered His people again and again and preserved a remnant from which to fulfill His promise regarding the Messiah. Through the Messiah, all nations of the earth would be blessed, just as God had promised to Abraham. Yet that was still just the beginning of God’s delivering. Linked to the promise to Abraham was the coming of a very special delivery linked to even further deliverance to come.
