It is wonderful watching all the flowers and shrubs showing their vibrant colors. But with the growing season is also the growing of things not desired; weeds and wild vines of various sorts which easily spread. Therefore, it takes effort to uproot the weeds and allow the nourishment of the soil to go to the desired plants. And a well-weeded garden is a beautiful sight. Such is also true regarding our life. We need to remain mindful of what takes root to grow.
The writer of Hebrews exhorted his readers. . .
“(14) Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (15) See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;” (Hebrews 12:14-15 ESV)
The writer of Hebrews seems to have had in mind the warning to the nation of Israel — prior to entering the promised land — to guard against “a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit” being among them that would lead away from God. (Deuteronomy 29:17-19) As the nation’s history reveals, when such was allowed to grow, the nation was often led astray, and God was forgotten. Taking root, it spread to grow the bitter fruit of exile and the loss of God’s blessings.
Let us never forget God but continue focusing on Him and His Will. Rooting out what is improper in our life will lead to the beautiful holiness God desires to mark it. Instead of “bitter fruit”, being rooted in God’s Will, may we bear His better fruit!
Have a great day EXPERIENCING THE BLESSING OF BLOOMING TO GOD’S GLORY!
