Someone has said, “He who offers God a second place offers no place at all.” (source: bulletin clipping)
God gave Israel this command: “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3 ESV) And first place is still what God expects and deserves. However, what does our life say? What is reflected in our actions? What is heard in our speech? What are the conclusions about us others might draw from their observations?
Think of it in the following terms:
1. What does my conversation convey regarding what I think of God?
2. What does my pocketbook say regarding what I think of God?
3. What does that which I spend my most time reading convey regarding what I think of God?
4. What does that which I spend my most time viewing say regarding what I think of God?
5. What does the priority I place on my family’s activities convey regarding what I think of God?
6. What does the priority I place on my own activities say regarding what I think of God?
7. What does the amount of fellowship with God’s family convey regarding what I think of God?
We are leaving an impression on the world and these are some of the areas of life which speak out loudly. It is important to consider what the message is we are conveying! Tomorrow (Lord willing) I’ll share three reasons why. But for now, meditate on and pray about the above noted areas of your life and the impact they have.
