Does God expect anything from me? If you follow Jesus and the Christian Faith, God does expect something from you. Even in other religions there is always a sense of God requiring something. Even if you do not believe in a God, the Natural World order requires something from me. A universal idea is that one should love one’s neighbor. The Old Testament prophet Micah summarized what God requires. ” He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” (ESV, Micah 6:8 )

This is often understood as having three interconnected parts:
Act justly: To deal honorably and fairly with others, actively pursuing fairness and fighting oppression. Justice also involves addressing root causes of problems, not just the symptoms.
Love mercy: To show kindness, compassion, and forgiveness to others. This means moving past begrudging actions to embrace mercy and actively care for the vulnerable.
Walk humbly with God: To live with a sense of modesty and recognize that you are not the center of the universe. Humility keeps your focus on God rather than on your own achievements.
We expect God to be faithful to us as He promises great things for us (John 14:2-3, for one). In turn, we should be faithful to Him as we walk in the light as He is in the light (1 John 1:7).
