When you think about how most of your peers at school, who are girls, dress, would you say that it is modest? What is modest? Many would agree that teenage girls in this day don’t think twice, or even once for that matter, about modesty. The one thought in their mind is, “Who can I impress today? Whose attention am I going to catch today?” These are the thoughts going through the minds of teenage girls.
Girls think that they have to dress “sexy” to be noticed. Proverbs 11:22 states, “As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.” This verse is saying that a beautiful jewel in any ugly pig’s snout is an awful sight. The same describes a beautiful woman who is not modest.
Girls know that most boys only want one thing. If you flash your body in front of these boys, they don’t care whether your personality is good or bad. You don’t have to impress dogs! Wait for your turn, wait for the man who doesn’t just look at your appearance. Look for one who will look at your personality first.
A girl has a responsibility to be an example, even for boys who think it’s “cool” to ogle girls’ bodies. When a girl shows off her body with immodest dress, she is causing the boys to suppose the girl gets an enjoyment from teasing a boy.
After all, when a girl dresses immodest, she knows that boys’ heads will turn and they will look at her as an invitation to approach her with immoral thoughts. Even though she doesn’t intend to fall into a “cheap” look, she is tempting her peers to form a “naughty” opinion of her.
A modest, clean appearance will attract more attention than an “anything goes” appearance.
Why would a girl want to struggle with convincing her peers that she is a decent, pleasant person, when her appearance gives an impression of “anything goes.” Remember the story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11:2-5 [2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 5 And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”]. First Timothy 2:9-10 [9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.] provides a positive guide for us as we choose our dress each day.
A girl by her dress can be in command of the opinion that is formed by her peers.
When choosing your attire for the day, be sure it includes a happy face!
