What do we value the most? Where does our focus rest when considering our wealth? It has been said, “Measure your wealth by what you’d have left if you lost all your money.” (H. Jackson Brown Jr) How does that sit with us?
On an occasion when Jesus was approached by one who felt he was getting left out of his earthly inheritance (Luke 12:13), Jesus redirected the focus for everyone within earshot as we read. . .
“(14) But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” (15) And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:14-15 ESV)
The thing the questioner needed to understand was something for all to take to heart. Though many think monetary wealth is the life, Jesus clearly stated it is not the thing by which life is to be measured! Despite the element of uncertainty (1 Timothy 6:17) associated with the treasures of earth because they can be lost or stolen or destroyed (Matthew 6:19), many are often blinded from seeing the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:19)
Later — as noted in this same chapter — Jesus stated to His disciples. . .
“(34) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:34 ESV)
With the hope of our heart turned toward God, may we give due mindfulness to our heart attachment and what we consider to be our treasure!
Have a great day TREASURING THE LIFE GOD GIVES!
