AI is everywhere! At first it was accessible through tools like ChatGPT but now even your web browser is not just giving you a list of relevant links but also its “opinion” about your search criteria. I admit I enjoy the summarization of content that it gives and acknowledge that it is a great tool, but I have to question its validity as I question all things on the internet. AI is definitely becoming a powerful tool but must be handled as a tool and not anything more. Using AI for more than a research tool is dangerous.
Why not just AI it? So, for this publication (Truth for Teens), why don’t we just use AI and have it kick out all the articles we need? It’s true that we are in need of authors and always need content (contact us if you are interested in being an author, by the way). Why not “just AI it?” It would lower the workload and maybe AI would explore some areas we did not think about.
Personally, I would rather not go there because AI takes away my unique voice. Even the writers of the bible wrote in their own styles while being inspired what to write (1 Peter 1:21). None of what I write is inspired but I try to base what I write on the word of God thus the frequent bible references. AI has an artificial voice and style which has no heart. It also cannot use scripture to correctly interpret other scripture.

AI is just a tool and we were meant to do the work! I would prefer to lean upon AI as I do spellcheck and grammar checks rather than have it do its work for me. It is a great reference tool but it makes me wonder that if AI is doing all the work, am I really bearing my cross daily (Luke 14:27)? God set Adam and Eve in the garden to work it (Genesis 2:15) and to do the tending. He puts humans on this earth to do good works (Galatians 6:10) and not to have a machine do it all though He did give us the knowledge to develop tools to help.
Using AI when not allowed is sin! For fleshly humans, it is VERY TEMPTING to just “AI” it! You should ask, “Did I learn anything by copying and pasting an AI generated paper?” The answer is likely “no.” “Am I allowed to use AI for this work?” If the answer is no you should ponder, “Did I sin?” If the expectation or instruction was that you write the paper on your own without help from fellow students, parents, or computer tools, the answer is “yes.” Using AI to write papers when the whole purpose is to learn the subject and learn how to write about it is wrong. Cheating is a sin in God’s eyes: “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin” (James 4:17, ESV).
So, to conclude, while I will use all the tools at my disposal to write and edit articles, a completely AI generated article I will not use. While the argument could be made that AI is just an easier way as a computer is to pen and paper and a car is to walking, it shouldn’t feel right. If it bothers my conscience, as a Christian, it should bother yours as well. I would rather do the work manually, with the help of spellcheck, the bible online, and a little research with AI tools versus having AI do all the work. In my mind, artificial intelligence produces artificial content without love or care for the reader. For one that uses AI to do his or her work for them, AI produces artificial answers with no growth, no accomplishment, and no love for the user.
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing“ (1 Corinthians 13:1-3,ESV).
