Humanity is often clever — at least in their own sight (Isaiah 5:21) — but lacking in understanding truly needed. Effort is put forth and search is made for wisdom while sometimes being unable to come to an actual knowledge of the truth. (i.e. 2 Timothy 3:7) Where we search for wisdom, how open we are to it, and its value being duly acknowledged is all of paramount significance.
As Job continued to respond to his friends who thought they were in the know regarding his circumstance of loss and suffering, in one of Job’s discourses we read. . .
“(12) But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? (13) Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living. (14) The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’ (15) It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price. (16) It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire. (17) Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. (18) No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; the price of wisdom is above pearls. (19) The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.” (Job 28:12-19 ESV)
There is so much humanity has failed to understand so as to gain a proper perspective of life in this realm. Though there are aspects of the creation which are highly valued, they cannot buy wisdom. However, the attention drawn to all creation ought to draw the attention to the Creator (note Romans 1:18-20) as the mind and power behind it all.
In his discourse, Job went on to state. . .
“(23)God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. (24) For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. (25) When he gave to the wind its weight and apportioned the waters by measure, (26) when he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder, (27) then he saw it and declared it; he established it, and searched it out. (28) And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ” (Job 28:23-28 ESV)
Wisdom is with God. He is the One Who sees and knows all! Therefore, wisdom is gained by looking to God. And wisdom in our life is revealed by surrendering to His Sovereignty as we turn away from the sin of our own direction. As we look around ourselves, let our sight not fall short, but be uplifted to the One Who has given us life and holds the hope of it for eternity. May God continue to be looked to for the “wisdom from above” (James 3:17) which He provides for leading us through life presently and toward the eternity to come!
Have a great day WITH AN UPLIFTED FOCUS ON THE WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
