When building a house or some other structure, it is important to measure properly and according to code so that all fits together to match the purpose for which it is constructed. The same is true when it comes to building our life. What is the standard being followed and how is the measuring of our life being done?
It has been said, “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.” (Vince Lombardi)
To make comparisons merely with one another is not a wise means of measure. (i.e. 2 Corinthians 10:12) As we are all in a continuing state of becoming what God is transforming us to be (2 Corinthians 3:18) — as even Paul acknowledged about his own life (Philippians 3:12-14) — a good way to measure our life is through self-examination to see if we are at least living up to what we have attained? (Philippians 3:16) The measure of ourselves is not so much in relation to having gained much or possess little (whether that be abilities, wealth, etc.), but what we are doing with what we have.
Remember what Jesus noted in observing the giving of others where we read. . .
“(1) Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, (2) and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. (3) And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. (4) For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”” (Luke 21:1-4 ESV)
The measurement was not according to literal amount, but what was being done with what was possessed. Let us therefore understand the wise measure is not how others perceive us or even how we perceive ourselves in comparison to others, but rather how God — Who knows every aspect of our being — views our life. May we live thankful to God for what we have as we put it to use for His glory and purposes!
Have a great day PURPOSING WHAT WE POSSESS FOR GOD’S PURPOSES!
