When it comes to word value, what is the determining factor? Doing an online search, I found information relative to freelance writers being paid anywhere from five cents to a dollar-and-a-half per word depending on experience or type of content. I also found a “Price Per Word Calculator” for determining payment to the author. Then there are speakers who get paid a certain rate for an appearance to share a single speech or an amount relative to the number of speeches given during an event. However, is there anything else that duly reflects the true value of words?
It has been said that talk is cheap. It is easy to make claims and say things, but what then; what follows? As has also been noted, some things are easier said than done. Words can come easily and quickly, while acting upon them often takes more energy and time. In light of this, consider the statement, “You are what you do, not what you say you will do.” (original source unknown)
John encouraged his readers. . .
“(16) By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. (17) But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? (18) Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:16-18 ESV)
Speaking love is good, but living love is better! Just as God’s great love was displayed in the giving of the Son on our behalf (1 John 4:10), so our love will be known by our actions. May we always bear in mind it is the follow-through on what we say that brings the true value to our words.
Have a great day BEING KNOWN FOR THE WORTH OF OUR WORDS!
