“Could have, would have, should have.” This phrase is one expressing regret. Yesterday we noted what could have been based on opportunity to hear and duly respond to the teaching of Jesus. Today let us consider the would of the matter.
As Paul testified and made his defense before Governor Festus and King Agrippa, in response to his sharing of the truth of Jesus (Acts 25:23 – 26:23), we read. . .
“ (28) And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?” (29) And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am — except for these chains.”” (Acts 26:28-29 ESV)
Would Agrippa or any others there on that occasion be persuaded to be a Christian? Paul desired it to be so and surrendered his life to the sharing of the gospel with the hope that others would believe and duly respond.
There are things some did who would not have done had they not been in ignorance. (i.e. Acts 3:17; Ephesians 4:18) However, ignorance must be left in the past and be replaced with repentance while the opportunity remains. (Acts 3:19; 17:30) Those who would refuse to do so will ultimately be left with regret.
The question is sometimes asked, “What would Jesus do?” What did He do? To make our redemption possible, Jesus surrendered fully to the Will of the Father. (Luke 22:42) Let us do likewise, knowing that as we walk on in the steps of Jesus we will be leaving regret behind! Having been persuaded to follow Jesus, may we seek to persuade others to do so as well!
Have a great day REMAINING DRAWN TO BE WHAT CHRIST WANTS US TO BE!
