Though today is only one day from yesterday and a day away from tomorrow (should it be provided), it is marked on the calendar as leaving last year behind for the beginning of a new one. Today, there may be many looking back reminiscing over events and happenings of the year that has ended while looking forward with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension toward what might lay ahead in the new we’ve begun.
In considering yesterday, today, and tomorrow, it has been said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” (Bil Keane) Truly today is another gift from God and as we unwrap it and put it to proper use we reveal how much we appreciate the gift it is.
It has also been said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” (Albert Einstein) When we embrace this idea in connection with the Lord, we will find the constant to cling to in moving forward in spite of not knowing all that might be gone through.
As the writer of Hebrews stated. . .
“(8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 ESV)
Is our focus on the constancy of the ever-existent Christ? It doesn’t matter the date on the calendar or what lies ahead as Jesus is the One Who can bring stability to our life for however many years we live in this earthly realm as we trust in the eternity He is leading us toward. With our trust in His ability to bring us safely home when that time comes, let us also consider how “There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.” (C. S. Lewis)
Therefore, may we press on with the resolve of Paul as he stated. . .
“(12)Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. (13) Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, (14) I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14 ESV)
Making Christ our life (Colossians 3:4) provides a hope on which to focus and be drawn toward with eager anticipation. (i.e. Hebrews 9:28) May we continue pressing on in Him!
Have a great day LIVING IT WHILE LOOKING AHEAD BY LOOKING TO THE LORD!
